Ashley McBryde is giving fans a glimpse at what's to come on her upcoming sophomore album with a new video for the revenge-fueled anthem, "Martha Divine."
The video was directed by Reid Long, and is the second release in a three-part video series, following the release of the "One Night Standards" video in December. The new video flashes back and fourth between characters from the song's storyline.
McBryde plays the role of a motel clerk who checks in a man and his mistress in and then tips off the man's daughter. After the phone call from McBryde, the girl heads straight to the hardware store to buy duct tape, gloves, and a shovel. She then arrives to the hotel where McBryde gives her a key to the couple's room. The plot twist comes when McBryde herself becomes a part of the main storyline as a character.
"'Martha Divine' was so much fun to write because Jeremy Spillman wasn’t afraid to get weird with me," McBryde shared in a recent interview. "I told him I wanted to write something dark, and we created this story that surrounds the most delightful trollop of a human being and gets down underneath the fingernails of the uncomfortable truth about family dynamics. I was certain no one would let me shoot a video that actually reflected the lyrics, but Reid Long helped me bring it to life in a way that only he could."
"Martha Divine" and her current single, "One Night Standards" will be included on McBryde's upcoming sophomore album, Never Will. The country singer revealed her plans to release her new 11-track project this spring on April 3. The title of the new album comes from a line in "Martha Divine" which goes, "I Didn't, I Don't and I Never Will."
McBryde will hit the road for her "One Night Standards Tour" kicking off on January 30 in Birmingham, Alabama. Currently, the singer has ten shows scheduled running through late April in Helotes, Texas. Tickets for the tour are available now.
