A man from Japan shelled out almost $18,000 for his dream wedding in Tokyo, but all of his relatives refused to come⊠even his own mother. Why? It probably has something to do with the fact that heâs tying the knot with a hologram.
Thatâs right, the love of Akihiko Kondoâs [[ ah-kee-hee-koh cone-dohâs ]] life is Japanâs hit virtual pop star Hatsune Miku [[ hot-soo-nay mee-koo ]], an animated teen singer with bright blue pigtails down to the floor. Specifically, he said âI doâ with a cat-sized plushie version of the virtual star at the ceremony⊠and he insists itâs true love.
Technically his marriage isnât legal, but the couple has rings and a âmarriage certificateâ from the same company that produces a Hatsune Miku hologram device. Kondo is so pleased with his marriage, that heâs not even considering a real, human partner. âTwo-dimensional characters canât cheat, age or die,â he notes.
